Local Art Walk

John Adrian Tomlin

I am a gamer and have been all my life. I have congenital muscular dystrophy, so I do have my limitations, but I don't let it stop me from living life to its fullest potential. With God on my side, I can get through anything. I have a B.S. in Game Art and Design with the intent on becoming a game designer, but it's very difficult to get in the gaming industry. So, I decided to write books instead. Game design is just another form of storytelling, but I could always lean on the age old tradition of writing.

Allissa Thompson

Ansel Adams said, “You don’t make a photograph just with a camera. You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen, the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved.” As much as I love capturing beauty through the lens, it is the power of a photo to evoke feelings, share stories, and connect with people that is most meaningful to me. They say a picture is worth a thousand words; that's exactly what you'll get if you stop to chat with me about a photo. I love sharing the stories behind my photos and am truly honored when people ask about or enjoy them!

I was born and raised on a farm in Orange County, New York, but have called Oceanside home for the last five years. My creative passion was kindled long ago by a high school photography class, where I was educated in the fundamentals of lighting and composition, yet I subdued my artistic voice for years in favor of academic and athletic pursuits at Duke University. Returning to my artistic roots has given me wings along with insatiable wanderlust; my love of travel has taken me from the jungles of Thailand to the Australian Outback and the Great Wall of China. I still find endless beauty right here in Oceanside, and love the thrill of chasing my next shot. As a member of Carlsbad Oceanside Art League (COAL) and Oceanside Museum of Art's Artist Alliance, I enjoy sharing my work while learning from the many talented artists in our community.

Krista Timberlake

I hail from Western Massachusetts, where I grew up in a family and community of artists and craftspeople & developed my love of nature & the outdoors. After attending UVM for premed & Savannah College of Art & Design, I earned my BFA from UMASS, Amherst. Bicycling for 25+ years has created a love and addiction that have contributed many ideas and themes to my art. As an avid cyclist, yogini, hiker, weightlifter, fitness enthusiast & former premed student, I have a great appreciation for the body as a machine. As a general outdoorswoman & lover of nature, I have always been drawn to depict animals in addition to people, especially in a whimsical manner. Artistically, I have always found beauty in well-crafted machinery, as well as in the human figure & most living things found in nature. In creating mechanical & more naturalistic pieces, I am intrigued by line, texture and color, and am most drawn to using watercolor as it is unpredictable. The most interesting things happen in my work when “mistakes” occur- unplanned reactions that I will never be able to duplicate. I currently live in Vista, work as a graphic designer at The Upper Deck Company & freelance as a graphic & web designer and fine artist.

Amber Rose Tibb

Amber Tibb was born and raised in the deserts of Southern California. She currently resides with her husband and small children in Oceanside, CA. She grew up in open spaces as a child with the freedom of the outdoors that she believes helped nourish a creative mind. She obtained her BA of Fine Art emphasizing in studio art from University of California Riverside; however, has been making art since before she can remember. Her work has been displayed at Riverside’s California Museum of Photography, the Chancellor’s Residence of UC Riverside, La Quinta Arts Foundation’s shows and other gallery exhibitions in the desert and california coastal regions.

Amber often combines raw pigments from the earth mixed with new and innovative bio resins creating a constant push pull between the natural and the synthetic. The work may also include handmade paper mixed with prior charcoal or pastel renderings merged into one mass. Some of the works build up a three-dimensional appearance as multiple layers of resin are places after each layer of medium is applied. What most of them have in common is a use of bold colors and iridescent pigments that provide vibrancy to the surrounding space in which it resides.
