Maria Elena Cruz

Throughout my life, art has been a way for me to feel and heal. When I didn't feel safe enough to express myself verbally or by writing in journals that someone could read, I would draw. Drawing out my emotions was my release. Just as much as I need to release anxiety and pain, it is also an opportunity to create a new vision for my life... to paint the picture that I want to see in my reality. Because my work has always been so personal, I was very shy about sharing it. But once I realized how much my paintings inspired others, it became my ambition for my art to not only be a journey of self discovery, but to arouse passions of hope for humanity and to speak in a universal voice for the family of man. I hope to bring my lexicon of emotions into the lives of people who are searching for inspiration, optimism and love.

I also work with various organization by setting up interactive art workshops that engage community member. Please visit dialart.org for more information.

Jeff Comulada

In the tradition of his Italian ancestors, Jeff is an artisan who builds custom furniture from his fertile imagination. Born in Washington, DC, but raised in Los Angeles and schooled at UCLA, Jeff has been building and selling fine furniture since the 1990’s, first in Pasadena, then in Temecula and now in his new hometown, the avocado capital of the world, Fallbrook, California (and not incidentally, Jeff makes a mean guacamole).

Jeff’s furniture pieces range from the purely practical (tables of differing sizes and heights) to whimsical steampunk creations. He is currently crafting a writing desk with room for a computer and printer but what a desk this is! Using H.G. Wells’ time machine as a starting point, Jeff has added drawers, a map pull-out, a time travel lever, lights, knobs and all sorts of added timepieces to give the illusion of a time machine, complete with a steam locomotive front with a tube for discarded paper!

Unique, one-of-a-kind furniture is Jeff’s specialty. If you are looking for an unusual pub/game table or a kitchen island or a gardening bench, please give us a try. We use re-purposed wood and knobs and pulls whenever possible. Steampunk, antique reproductions, Craftsman and mid-century are all styles that Jeff works with and creates. If you have an item in mind, Jeff can probably build it for you.

Vanessa Christie

A San Diego native, and graduate of UCLA Vanessa Christie has created art all her life. She studied art at City College, and Studio Art Center International, in Florence Italy before transferring to UCLA. Her art is inspired by music, poetry, mythology, the natural world, and especially by imagination and dreams. Her work is also influenced by her travels both in the United States and Europe. Much of her work features natural images such as trees, and constructed objects such as masks. Each of her paintings is an attempt to tell a story without words.

Laura Cunningham

The nature of my work is rooted in my coastal upbringing. Growing up in a small Southern California beach community I am inspired by the colors and moods of the ocean. Using photographs that I have taken along the California coast I define my work as Mixed Media: combining enhanced photography with my graphic design skills and incorporating sewing, painting and wood work to complete a piece that creates a harmony with all of these elements.

My studio in Encinitas, California is filled with high tech equipment as well as paint brushes, sewing machine, table saw, and an array of tools for any task.

Each of my unique photographs is hand stretched after being printed onto canvas and embellished with sewing and framed from bits of yardsticks and other odd pieces of scrap wood. The finished piece is tagged with an ocean inspired quote. My work is available in a variety of sizes ranging from 36"x36" square to 10"x40" horizontal as well as smaller sizes.

Ed Coonce

I am a storyteller/writer and painter. I work in mixed media, producing pieces that are somewhat 3d on the surface. I use a variety of techniques and materials to produce the works. My first art exhibit was at the Joan Ankrum Gallery in Hollywood in 1981. I have participated in the Oceanside Art Walk; this past November I organized and finished a public collaborative painting, which I will feature at my next hanging. I believe that the creative spark never leaves us.

I enjoy the theatre, and am lucky enough to be a part of Theatre Arts West. I hope to have another screenplay finished within the next few months. I was lucky enough to have a short film, "Sheep and Wolf," in the 2012 Oceanside International Film Festival. I am a poet, and perform regularly with Full Moon Poets, New Poetic Brew, and the Ruckus at the Duck.

Catherine Clancy

Catherine Clancy was born in Detroit, MI. After hitting a plateau, Catherine put her art supplies away for ten years. Her daughter's whimsical drawings reignited her desire to make art. Since picking up a paintbrush two years ago, the act of painting brings much joy and a meditative peace into her life. She studied at the Art Students' League of Denver, Studio 2nd Street, and Watts Atelier. Catherine currently lives and works in Carlsbad, California with her husband, daughter, two cats, and fish.

Cameron Canales

After growing up in Lemon Grove, CA, Cameron Canales moved to Fallbrook, CA in 2008 when he began to immerse himself in the arts and quickly began freelancing, mostly for commercial screen printing projects. During this time Cameron was attending Palomar College studying psychology, with hopes to eventually move into art therapy when he was offered a position at the Safari Park as a caricaturist. He also worked at Legoland, CA before opening his own caricature concession. Currently Cameron is running his own caricature stand below the Oceanside Pier on the strand as well as providing caricature entertainment for private parties and corporate events of all sorts. Although not currently in school, Cameron uses his downtime to study psychology and develop his body of artwork which can be seen at the Art Hatch gallery, formerly known as the Distinction Gallery in Escondido. He loves to work in many mediums and styles as he feels that only the proper medium will accurately communicate the message behind the piece.

Come see the variety in his work every second Saturday from 6-10 at Art Hatch in Escondido.

Virginia Cole

Virginia loves work that is suggestive and ambiguous; work that encourages the imagination of the viewer and prefers to leave interpretation of her work open.

She usually begins a work without a preconceived concept and is led by instinct as she works. This willingness to be led is part of what makes her pieces so visually compelling. She is fascinated by the creative process; her art is ever-changing and evolving based upon inspiration she gains from a wide range of sources.

Virginia works with a variety of mixed water media materials on canvas, wood panels, and watercolor paper. She uses acrylic paint, collage (hand painted tissue papers, found papers, rice papers, printed text), ink, pastels, watercolor pencils, and often uses sandpaper to get unique, richly-textured effects.

In addition to being a member of the Brandon Gallery, she is also a Signature Member of the San Diego Watercolor Society, a member of the Escondido Arts Partnership, and The Fallbrook Art Center Artist’s Guild.

Gina Cannella

I love to paint demons with daggers, curvy cutthroat cuties, killer kaiju, fast food fiends, malevolent Martians, badass baby dolls, good lookin’ ghosts, wicked witches and pissed off pets. Anything that’s fun and can be alliterated. ♥ ♥ ♥

Devin Castañeda

Devin Castañeda is a 20-year-old Oceanside local. Being from North County, he grew up near the ocean, and instantly became fond of it. His fondness of the water’s beauty, lead him to purchase a GoPro Hero 3. With this camera, Devin has captured thousands of ocean wave photographs. Even though he loved the ocean, he was ready to explore the world of photography by dipping into different genres.

From a GoPro Hero 3, to a Canon 40D, to a Canon 6D, Devin has expanded his playing fields from the ocean to the vast fields and streets of our county. Since purchasing his first Canon he has succeeded in dabbling in the different genres of photography including: action sports, fashion, night/ long exposure, nature, and lifestyle. Through the years his love for the art of photography has grown, and he hopes to continue to learn and develop his skill set and knowledge.

In the near future, Devin wants to develop his own website featuring a gallery of his work, as well as photographs to purchase from the site. Currently he has sold prints of the Oceanside Pier, the San Diego wild fires, and various sunset photos. With the love of the art and support of his family being his drive, he has and will continue to be the photographer to watch.
