Local Art Walk

Julianne Ricksecker

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Julianne Ricksecker lived in New Mexico and Rhode Island, Rouen, France and Yokosuka, Japan before settling in San Diego. She studied at the University of Pittsburgh, Universite de Rouen, the University of New Mexico, and the San Diego Acadamy of Fine Arts.

Inspired and delighted by the beauty of landscape, I try to express the awe and wonder I feel through a variety of media on paper. I am fascinated with the effects of light on the colors and textures of the landscape, and with the rhythms and patterns of the shapes I see. I hope to evoke in the viewer some of the pleasure, peace and joy I feel when I experience these natural wonders.

I portray realistic landscape imagery in pastel, monotype, intaglio printmaking (etching and collagraph), and watercolor. My imagery comes from actual places I have visited, such as waterfalls in Yosemite, vistas of Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, the Sierra Nevada mountains, Glacier National Park, Yellowstone, and the Grand Tetons. I also portray local scenes of the Cuyamaca Mountains, the La Jolla coastline, and desert scenes of Anza Borrego. Residing in San Diego County since 1975, I still thrill to see our local beaches, bays and canyons.

Julianne has exhibited in local, regional, national and international exhibitions. She has won numerous awards for her etchings and her pastels including 2nd place at the 8th Biennial International Miniature Print Exhibition at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking. She is a member of the San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild, the Pastel Society of San Diego, the Artists Alliance, and the Allied Artists Association of San Diego. Sign up for her personal newsletter to receive information about new work and upcoming exhibits.

Raziah Roushan

From Coast to Coast, Raziah Roushan has been making her mark on the American public. For over fifteen years, Raziah has been working as a professional artist in mediums such as oil, acrylic, charcoal, pastel, aerosol, printmaking, as well as wood working. Upon receiving her Bachelor’s of Fine Art from the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland Oregon (2004), she has traveled the planet teaching, networking and contracting for the purposes of visual art.

Raziah’s art ranges from a variety of symbolism, visual genre collage and a palette of diverse techniques. Trained through a traditional painting degree, she is not only capable of developing illuminated figurative paintings, she also brings many contemporary styles such as graffiti, text, stencil and content driven inspirations to a body of work that some call “statement and purpose.” It is through a juxtaposition of imagery that Raziah develops a story on the canvas by which she invites the viewer to open into conversation and debate. Such works in her portfolio as “Does Your Freedom Come Gold Plated” or “How Trustworthy is Your Health Insurance” portray the confusion of our current affairs through a melting of figure and symbol.

In the spring of 2012, Raziah successfully completed her Master’s Degree in Art Administration from the Savannah College of Art & Design. Her pursuit of a Master’s Degree not only assists in advancing her business skills as a professional artist, it also offers a deeper service of her talents to the many non-profit organizations she currently volunteers and partners with. The Carlsbad ArtSplash has been an influential organization in Raziah’s community and directorship skills since 2004. As well, the Philadelphia Mural Arts opened doors to working with at-risk-youth through both classroom settings and legislative involvements. These experiences continue to affect Raziah’s community activism.

Her continuously positive attitude, love of art and constant traveling, have drawn her into massive networking, teaching and mentorship to artists of all ages and mediums. Whether it is grocery store conversations, hosting at community events or classroom lectures, Raziah Roushan continues to inspire hearts and activate minds.

Noreen Ring

It is my intention to design works that reflect an “other-world” feeling with a sense of universality. Earth, mountains, rocks, flowers, the sky, the stars, moons – things that we know exist with certainty but aren’t sure of the details and how they might fit together somewhere else, on another earthly plane. When I design, it is important for me to consider how comfortable existence would be in these worlds that endlessly reveal themselves.

JT Rhoades

My name is JT Rhoades . I have lived in Oceanside my entire life a long with my three brothers. Our dad raised all of us himself for nineteen years; having a house full of boys was quite the adventure. We were never far from trouble and on occasion we may have received a knock on our door from local OPD.

In my eyes, surfing and skateboarding have laid the foundation for a way of life that are lived by many. Surrounded by friends everyday gives me the inspiration to continue my passion and photograph those around me. Photography became an outlet that causes me to slow down and really take in the street life around me. Through all the ups and downs in life I have experienced thus far, I often think about that fact that I could be that dude sleeping at the bus stop or alone reading under the bridge. The way I see it, the misunderstood folks I often times interact with can either keep me on the right path or pull me into a world of the unknown.
